I've just stripped down my swivel to inspect the seal (7 years in situ) and it's immaculate! Leaking as overfull, now fine - anyway this has got me to thinking about the bad press the gaiters get for being a mud trap.

They were a bit dirty inside, but have drawn all the sand and mud onto the gaiter away from the swivel, and have done it a great service in protection. (Treated with petroleum jelly every winter) I have now ordered up a new set, just wondering what anyone else's experiences have been?

The MOD fit them as standard, so what's good enough for them is good enough for me Wink

Yep, Swampy has the MOD gaiters fitted - the PO was a TA engineer and so I assume they were 'borrowed' from the depot... along with the oil cooler and lots of 12V marine spec power outlets all over the place!

They were fitted to my old 2a for donkeys years, posibley original by the M.o.d. and when I stripped it all down the swivels were absolutely fine. No leaks, no rust, no probs, almost a fit and forget thing because I didn,t treat them with anything, while I had the truck. (4yrs)
