Hi all, just wondered how many people on here work on their vehicles themselves or take it to a garage to get done? Whether it is just basic filter changes and servicing to fitting new swivels or springs etc?

Pretty much everything. In fact this weekend I fitted new shocks & springs all round on my Volvo, plus a big brake kit.

I do take the car to a trusted mechanic for the bits I find too awkward or for which special tools are needed - but he's the only person I'd trust with my car. Forget main dealers, specialists, etc - I've had far too many bad experiences of them. In fact I became so disillusioned that I went to night school to study for a C&G 383 (Motor Vehicle Engineering & Repair) Smile

Everything I can, I do myself- it does get an annual service with a mechanic in the next village just to be sure- and to get the MOT of course Confused The mechanic I use took an old sluggish Corsa I have, serviced it and delivered it back like a new car- some sort of black magic I assume- he's even a classic Landy enthusiast to boot! Very Happy

Mine being and 08 it's still under warranty, so has had two dealer services, but next time it'll be out of warranty, so I can break it and bodge it myself without the cost. The cost being the difference between me bodging it and the dealer Wink Laughing.

everything from minor service to full rebuild, restoration, special build, plus many other peoples motors. built my first v8 racer when i was 6 with my brother, grew up with landies and rebuilt dozens. then became a mechanic specializing in landies, wouldn't trust anyone else to work on my babies, and to be honest, on some of them no one else would know how to work on them!

On our Series 3 everything including a rebuild with a new chassis, parabolic springs etc.
On the 110 everything
On the disco 2 as much as possible
Mind you I have owned, driven, trialed, broken and repaired Land Rovers for 40 years,
The worst job changing a wheel bearing Shocked this was how ever on the side of the road in deepest Wales and had to find a farm with Oxy acetylene torch to heat it up because it had seized solid, that was the hard bit the wheel bearing was easy
