Lunch break on the Bradfield Moors in the Peak District on my way home from Dewsbury with a Stage 1 bonnet I bought there on ebay:

Yes, it looks more at home there than in Leicester. I'd be more at home there than in Leicester.

I used to take Eileen from my home in Dewsbury, over Strines Moor (Bradfield Dale) to get to the A57/A6013 over Ladybower Reservoir to visit my family in Chesterfield. I prefered this to going through Sheffield.

Lovely drive, but very labour intensive. It's a route that makes you and your Series work hard. Maybe it's more relaxed with a V8?

Which route were you taking?

I left Dewsbury for Penistone past Cannon Hall which I know well as I have family in Cawthorne. Then it sounds as though I took a pretty similar route to you for a while, cutting across country to Ashbourne on my satnav's shortest route - I did go by Ladybower. Yes, it was pretty effortless for the V8 - I may have had to drop into 3rd gear occasionally Very Happy

Why do you need a new bonnet?

Who said anything about 'need'? Smile It's for the limestone Stage 1 - I wanted one without the spare wheel carrier, like you see on the green one - I prefer the look on the Stage 1 (I feel the opposite about the standard Series bonnet) and I'm too old now for heaving a spare wheel up there anyway. Now my kids are all grown up I've plenty of room inside for the spare and can still put it on the back door temporarily if I do need all the room for a big load. The limestone bonnet frame has surface rust that needs attention and will be easier to deal with with the bonnet off the vehicle, so I was looking for a cheap 110 bonnet to use as a temporary lid over the engine while I did that - not having anywhere secure under cover to work on my vehicles is the bane of my life (ok, one of the banes of my life) Anyway, while I was looking for a 110 bonnet (outwardly exactly the same) I also kept an eye out for a genuine Stage 1 bonnet (slightly different shape frame), not wanting to spoil the originality of the vehicle in this regard, and without the wheel carrier. I'd only been looking 6 years (the rust job not being urgent!) before this rarity turned up on ebay for 15 - seller had no idea what it was of course - and its in great condition too - just got to get it resprayed limestone (found a genuine galvanised Stage 1 bumper on ebay this summer too for just under 40, at a farm in Derbyshire - again seller had no idea what it was or its rarity - I'd been looking for one for years to replace the horrid black 110 thing that was despoiling the front of my Landy) So, anyway, thank you for asking!!!

Thank you, but if you mean what you can see in the photo sticking up at the back window, that was just a bit of cardboard to prevent paintwork getting scratched there - the bonnet took up pretty much the whole of the rear - a Stage One bonnet (or a 90/110/Defender one) is a pretty big thing and was a tight fit (diagonally) through the safari door - I did a lot of very careful measuring before I left home, and had to move the spare wheel to behind the front seats from where I usually keep it on the rear floor just to get the bonnet through the rear door.

Just measuring up for the new garage

Would have been a pretty tight fit in the old one!
