Hi
The box in my 1972 SWB is suffering from the usual problems, worn synchros, whining noises in reverse. Reading various forums I need advice on where to go for a recon box. I found favourable reviews for "Syncro Gearboxes/Online gearbox parts, anyone had dealings with them. Any other companies recommended? They sell recon kits if you want to do your own recon, again anyone used these.
I've also seen comments on recon boxes failing quite early.
Any help/advice most welcome.

It would be better to get an exchange recon box. Look through the ads in Land Rover magazines.

The best of the best is Ashcroft transmissions.

But !!!!!!

Before you go down the more expensive route of a recon gearbox you should try flushing and renewing your gearbox oil.

Flushing just means getting rid of all the old oil and replacing with fresh new oil.

I would try this first as you may well be pleasantly surprised by the results.

Ashcroft may be good but they are also very expensive. I was quoted over a thousand pounds plus exchange 'box.

Thanks for your replies, most helpful. I understand Ashcoft do not recon or supply the series boxes any more. Flushing the box I had not heard mentioned, might as well give it a go before stripping out the cab and extracting the box.
