|
|
|
Parts catalogue Landrover III Part number RTC 9841 CE June 1988 has a nice photo of a Landrover with a tyre mounted on the Bonnet.
Shame it has no mention of the clamp parts needed to attached it ! (That I found...)
A helpful friend though it was better mounted on the rear door, but having done that he found it overlapped with hitching Ball !
In the process the bar with a central hole was lost as well as the long bolt was lost.... Grrrr......
After 3 years of having it rattle on the bonnet secuted a a pin with went though the wheel nuts normally used held it from falling off into the road or mud . Not very satisfactory.
Now making a new bar is easy enough but which thread was used for the mounting plate which has a threaded hole in the middle of it.
I tried UNF 5/8th bur that was 2 to 3mm (?) too wide,
So does any body have any ideas on what thread this Nut might be ?
I've tried a few which looked possible but they were not...
Many responses with best guesses etc most welcome.
: ))

If I mounted my 6 stone weight Wolf wheel and tyre on the bonnet I'd never be able to lift the bonnet.
Tim, try Dunsfold Land Rover re your spare wheel bits. _________________ Alan Drover.

They were most helpful and led to a total solution !
LandRover Defender Bonnet Spare Wheel MTG Bolt Part MRC4473
now it was the right thread ! and the hole was 1/2". Now my friendly garage had a blue bin marked 1/2 inch and a longer bolt with the right thread was in it and a 3/5inch square steel rod was hanging about which was drilled in the length and cut to size which was A5 as in paper lenghth needed.
I left the garage with the tyre firmly clamped to the bonnet !!!
= Total Fix !
hope that helps others !!! _________________ Series 3 County 1983 now TDI 200 with TDI300 Turbo and Intercooler.
