In the scheme of it, four years isnít bad in comparison to what the likes of what burglar bill gets. And that is after his guilty plea for which he had a third of the sentence taken off. Iíve seen too many lenient sentences given out including on the numerous occasions that Iíve been a victim of physical assaults. Theyíll likely serve around half with the remainder on licence but the terms of the licence should mean that if they step out of line whilst on licence, theyíll get recalled to prison. However, early release for good behaviour etc, isnít the topic of discussion here.

Geoff, I think youíve misunderstood my point. Iím certainly not saying theyíre Robin Hood or anything similar. To do so would be totally wrong. Theyíre thieves, pure and simple. My putting the link up was to show that an organised crime group who were very active were caught and received what is in the current climate a significant prison sentence. Letís hope more offenders go the same way.

?!? Sad

Now, in the middle east they have a much more permanent solution to theft ... let's give it a trial to see how it pans out.

I'm thinking it might at least be a little more difficult to take apart someone else's Land Rover with no hands.

There must be a gang of them.

I bet it's whoever is selling so many spares on ebay and gumtree - perhaps the police should have a policy of checking spare parts origins online.....without a market the thieves would have no where to sell!, and thus no incentive.

The parts from stolen vehicle are also sold at the land Rover shows.
We had at stand at a show in Driffield and we watched a police officer looking at parts on the next door stand, he stopped looking and arrested the stall holder
Somebody had found bits of his vehicle on the stand, the person was taken away and the people left on the stand took anything with glass and could have been marked to a skip and smashed the glass!
Another stall holder told us that the person was well known for vehicle thefts.
I asked the event organisers why the police never patrol the site, "because its bad for business" Shocked

If everyone put something like 'Smart water' on all their major parts, the police could check with a Smart reader at jumbles etc.

Don't suppose there is any truth in the rumour that the death penalty is coming back for successfully convicted Land Rover thieves?

Not unless you're prepared to take it personally, in which case the conviction bit is academic.
