There was an interesting post on one of the green lane discussion groups on FB earlier today regarding someone who apparently broke down at the start of a green lane trip on. Salisbury Plain. He arranged recovery via his recovery company, one of the two larger companies and his vehicle was on the matelled highway. When the recovery operator arrived, who was a contractor, he said that the driver had been “illegally off roading” and tried charging another £280 to recover him as he had some mud on his Landy.

From the posts this guy puts up, he’s a responsible laner who regularly runs trips across the area so I would be surprised if he had been illegally driving off piste. I know there’s some interpretation as to the vehicle’s condition but it’s best to be aware of restrictions and clauses when it comes to the possibility of recovery if you have a breakdown whilst laning.

Yet another reason that you should never go out laning alone and should always go properly equipped.

Land Rovers don't leak oil - They are just marking their territory.

From his post, the guy was in a group. It would appear that his vehicle had a mechanical fault. But yes, totally agree. It still surprises me the number of people who still go alone.
