What is it like to finally come to the end of a 'Landy To Do list'??? Very Happy

Tempting fate I imagine, not that I have ever been there - or even close. In the meantime, I settle for starting when asked to, going where asked to and, preferably, stopping when asked to.

Something will be missing in your life now John. You’d better start a new list. Smile

No such thing as an 'END' to a Landy To Do list.

You are obviously living in a fantasy world. Very Happy

Battery went flat again through lack of use. Standby electronics drains it over time. Voltage down to 11.2 volts.
Spare fully charged battery fitted and she started instantly with no faults.
Battery on the smart charger. It will probably take about 20 hours to bring it back up.

The starter has been getting a bit lazy in the last week or two. The cold weather hasn’t helped. I’ll contact my Indy guy to fit the wasp starter that I bought a while back. Smile

The 90 is booked in for the starter to be changed on 8th December. That’s the earliest my Indy guy could do having had a cancellation. Having the disco 200Tdi fitted, the turbo is lower down and access is difficult. I looked a couple of years ago and I can’t remove the downpipe and turbo without risking shearing several bolts, hence getting it done.

The search for a disc braked rear axle from an early disco 1 or Defender continues...

Had a look at Henry - nice sheet of snow no him - therefore he gets no treatment of any kind at present - too cold, too wet, too difficult.

For the MOT a couple of weeks back I had a slack steering ball joint, so I replaced both the track rod and drag link because all the joints were probably about the same age. I thought 'Don't muck about, just change the whole lot' As it happened, once I had got the old bars out and had a good look at them I found the other ball joints were close to the end as well.

I put the new track rod against the old one to set it's length with a plan to get the tracking checked later.
I went to 4 tyre dealers to enquire about getting the tracking checked and none of them could do it. Apparently none of the modern laser alignment units can deal with Land Rover steering. Even if they could have done it, they all wanted at least £50.00 for the privilenge.

I called a local backstreet garage and he said he could do it. I took it in this morning and he checked it. He knew exactly what he was doing. As it happed it was perfect and needed no adjustment. As he did teh check in his MOT bay I asked him to check my headlight alignment as I had changed a lamp unit. It was slightly out so he reset it.

Cost ..... £20.00 the lot. Result.

Old school mechanic saves the day Very Happy
