Afternoon mightyquin.
Remember the asking price is just a guide. Either haggle or get something thrown in for free eg replacement timing belt(and make sure it's replaced!!)

Thanks,

I hit a snag with this one - the emissions zone!

It's very confusing, but as I now understand it, a station wagon is OK as it's deemed a private vehicle, but a normal hard top isn't OK as it's deemed a commercial vehicle.

I looked up some assorted Landys for sale and input their reg numbers on the TFL website. Some (that should flag up) show as exempt regardless, possibly as they are still recorded as military vehicles even though now privately owned.

Apparently the TFL reg plate checker is only a guide, if you put the same details in the criteria search it gives a different result.

So, I either need a petrol ex military one or a station wagon it would appear.......

Afternoon Mightyquin.
Unfortunately you can't buy a "commercial" Land Rover and convert it to a station wagon as TFL classify the vehicle as it left the factory irrespective of what had been done to it afterwards.
When I used to make deliveries in London I used to see when driving down Earls Court Road towards the Embankment a black 110 Station Wagon in a church car park the registration number of which was OS05 LOW!!!
Made me laugh. Alan Drover

Hi MightyQuin,

Just picked up this discussion after a few weeks of no internet.

Some good advice already. The ex-MoD plan is a good one! Let us know how you get on. Very Happy

Still looking!

I have seen a petrol Defender hard top (not ex MOD) advertised but not had a chance to get to view it yet.

Evening MightyQuin.
If it's got a 2.5 engine identified by a spin on oil filter then it's unleaded. The 2.3 (five bearing 2.25 and same oil filter assembly as the 2.25) then it's not unless an unleaded head has been fitted.
