Hi Everyone,
I bought a series 3 a month ago and it needs a new engine. I am struggling to find a garage in South East England that has experience with the 200Tdi conversion.
Anyone any suggestions?
Thanks

Welcome along Ericlandy

Knappster has a 200tdi in his although not sure that he fitted it, but he will definitely be on hand to give advice if required (Rich, you're needed fella!)

Glencoyne are a good starting point and have a 'how to do' 200di conversion...

http://www.glencoyne.co.uk/200di2.htm

See how you get on with that for starters, I'm sure others will chime in with more info.

Got any pics? I'm sure we would all love to see the girl

Sorry chap, just realised you are after a garage near you as opposed to doing it yourself.

Try Nene Overland

Thanks for the response Adie.
Yes it was websites like Glencoyne that persuaded me to use a 200tdi.
I would love to do it myself but just don't have the time right now.
I have got a recon 200tdi engine and recon gearbox just need someone to fit it.[/img]

Sorry for my lack of Geography! Nene is still not that close to you is it!! Duh!

So are you more Canterbury / Maidstone way? or more towards Guilford / Basingstoke?

Ericlandy. You could try Dunsfold Land Rovers near Godalming.

Hi Eric and welcome to the forum. I have a 200tdi in Henry - I bought him with the engine already installed. I believe that it was done by Joe Edwards Land Rover at Leighton Buzzard. I don't know if that is nearer to you??

Hi Eric,

Apologies for the delay in getting on the forum, a combination of baby care and shift work have been order of the day all week!

Good choice of engine for a series 3 if youíre not bothered by originality. My Series 3 is having a 200 Tdi fitted by a mate, which is why itís taken a long tim to finish! Embarassed Itís not having the turbo fitted so itís a 200 di basically. There is lots of advice online as itís a common conversion although 200 Tdiís aregetting harder to find now.

As mentioned, Glencoyne do a good write-up on the conversion. Itís been some time since I looked into mine owing to family and work but when I can add more, I will. The internet is a great source of info and help on this conversion as itís relatively straight forward. A good idea would be to call a few Landy specialists locally to see if they can source an engine or if they will do the conversion if you find an engine. Get them to talk you through it and let you know what it will cost. An engine will probably be £700 plus, complete with ancillaries although if you get a disco engine, the complete vehicle would also give you most of what you need and a vehicle left at the end to sell for spares.

As with any conversion, donít forget to tell your insurance company.

Let us know how you get on. Smile

Mine has the 200tdi out of a Discovery. People say that the turbo is too strong for the rest of the vehicle; brakes, drivetrain etc, but I have not found this to be the case. It's all in how you drive it - take it easy with the right foot and you'll have no probs.
A disco engine is going to be your best option - Defender engines are like the proverbial rocking horse poo poo.
