I can remember 10 pints of beer for a £1 with change for fish and chips on the way home, at the same time you could get 3 gallons of petrol and 3 shots of red X with green shield stamps as a bonus.
When decimalisation came in there was ructions when a pint of beer costing 1 shilling & 11 pence was put up to 10 new pence (2 shillings) argument was it should have been 9.5 new pence, needless to say the price did not come down and it has been going up ever since
Cheers
David

Ah yes - licking sheets of green shield stamps - what memories! (quite appropriate to my 'rip-off' thread - I always thought they must have got the idea from some sort of nostalgia for the hyper-inflation of the Weimar Republic - and how else would I have had the means to acquire my first corkscrew or footpump? Neutral )

Oh god, what did I start?

I daren't mention the time that I was found playing (apparently trespassing) on an old bomb site at the end of my road and got a clip round the ear from the local beat bobby. Then, like a fool, I went home and complained to my mum that the copper had clipped me. That was a bit of an error.

Pip, pip

I remember those days Geoff. Nowadays the copper would be up on a charge of assault as would your parents for giving you another clip round the ear.

Television advert for the Kia Sportage describes it as "More Fun and more style!" Since it looks just the same as all the blobby Eurojunk, then if that's not a rip-off what is?

Try to think of it as supporting the South Korean economy Alan, and therefore as your contribution to the ongoing (Korean) War effort! Smile (By more fun and more style they probably just mean more than whatever it is they drive - ox-carts? - north of the demilitarised zone)

Don't think the South Koreans have any community nuclear programmes Rich.

Oh yes, thatís the north... Smile Embarassed

Still, they do offer the best warranty even if it looks much like any eurobox. Not sure JLR will ever be offering the same.

I'll bet no one would keep a Kia until the warranty expires and I don't imagine it's transferrable. Depreciation is probably horrendous.

Since I've not exactly been bowled over by the response to my Rip-off thread (much to my surprise! - I must be very mean), I'm widening it to include not just the ludicrously expensive but also the cheap but utterly useless, and I'm nominating this for starters:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153187606152?ul_noapp=true

Feel free to post anything that costs money and claims to do something that could be done just as easily (or better) with something that doesn't! Extra brownie points if it actually has anything vaguely to do with Land Rovers or off-roading. Must be a serious claim - no jokes like Lucas Replacement Smoke kits.

Here's another:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/401601491331?ul_noapp=true

Both these 'impossible to live without' items arrived for some reason in my inbox today from ebay in response to a standing search for 'Land-Rover alloy door'- go figure!
