NO!NO!NO!NO!NO!NO!NO!NO!NO!NO!NO!NO!
If you want a 90, buy one!
The best thing about Series Landys is the recessed bonnet, when you're hanging half upside down in the engine bay trying to get things changed, trust me, that set back rad is brilliant - it gives you a great place to get a good firm foothold! And the chacacter of the Series with the set back rad - we wouldnt buy a defender because they are flat fronted, simple as that. When you see that set back panel, you know you're lookign at an old vehicle with history.
by all means put in a 200 TDI or 300 TDI, in this day and age i think we all need to consider cleaner more effecient engines, especially with the rising cost of fuel, but NO! dont change its looks!

Hi Matt,
In answer to your question....you can put a 90 front end on the series 3 but any other similarities will stop there! Afterwards, you'll have an abortion of a Land-Rover and become the joke of the town where you live!!!! |

Ah mate... It's a virus that spreads all to easily and you should be vaccinated against it before it really takes hold
Part of the beauty and reason for buying a series landy is the front end... Apart from a Stage1 V8 it should really stay that way if you ask me...
Each to their own and all that I guess but its a lot of work to ruin a perfectly good landy look if you ask me... Spend your money on tidying up the rest of the landy, save yourself a lot of hassle and hold your head proud...
If you want to upgrade the engine one day to say a 200Tdi then it is perfectly possible to fit everything in without messing with the front end
Whatever you decide you'll get help and support from us but don't expect everyone to be happy with the idea... even if you are a normally sane person most the time... |

I tend to agree. I've got a 110 that I use for 'best' and a S111 for playing with at weekends and as much as I like driving them both I reckon the series is a better looking motor mainly because the front end gives it that extra bit of character! _________________ 1976 Series 111 109 Ex-Military

i realy do hate this not blaming you matt but people but an s3 because its cheaper and then they turn it into what they can already buy but its twice the price but what they dont ralise is that they spend the money that they saved buying an s3 and promtley spend it on body pannels turning it into a defender it gets me all worked up just save up a bit longer and buy a damend 90 in the first place _________________ 1983 88" with lots of bits missing

I don't think that this needed a poll.
The result would have been unanimous. _________________ 110 CSW 2.5 Petrol (soon to be gone).

You don't have to leave it as is... I suppose you could do the conversion and just say its a repeat of something your old man did a long time ago... I could accept that...
I guess some of us are stuffy stick in the muds... You go and do what the heck you want mate... its your landy... just don't expect any xmas/birthday cards from half the folk here after you do it... |

I believe that some would despise a series 1 trial motor... but I guess to me as long as someone doesn't take a straight one and cut it up into little bits to make such a motor in this day and age then I don't mind... if they find a scrap one that has nothing left but a few panels and a vin plate then they're not doing it any worse are they...
Plenty of shot series motors about for that sort of thing... A serious conversion for trialling will need lots of fun parts adding... fancy it myself some days but its a lot of hard work...
When modding the series front end you can leave the series rad panel intact and just add the defender front and bonnet... Then if your popping round to a series purists you can swop em over if you like... |

You can't beat the appearance of a Series III front end. It would be a sacrilege to try and make it a flat-front!
By the way, what does "lol" mean My daughter(13) uses it a lot in her texts to mates but doesn't really know for sure what it means - lots of laughs? lots of love? laugh out loud? I'm obviously an old fa*t and don't understand the modern lingo! _________________ 1977 Series 3 SWB 2.25 petrol |

Nah dont do it mate. Spend the money on getting the engine running sweetly, or smartening up the interior, but dont make it into something it's not.
Thats my humble opinion anyway _________________ Miles
