I bought this little beasty around '93 and know precious little about it apart from some info found on the web. I did have it on the front of Dumbo (s111 swb) and it worked, but I never used it in anger. (I sold Dumbo before the 2nd rebuild was complete) Sad Sad
Is it worth keeping and putting on the front of my next Series Landy or selling it to help finance buying my next Series Landy?
Which since talking to you lot i want to do NOW Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Do yourself a favour and sell the darn thing!

I can't understand folks...they get the need for a winch and stick it in the most vulnerable place on a Land-Rover...at the front which is the first place that get's stuffed, the first thing that get's nicked and the main thing that bend's the chassis!

You have an old Hydraulic winch there and one that is more then able to write your Land-Rover off easily on tick over!

If you must have a winch, buy a small portable electric one that can remain safely in it's box in the back of your vehicle until you need to use it....which incidently won't be you!...it never is but someone will remember that you have one and want to borrow you and the winch won't they?

Arrow Keep it

Arrow Cleen it

Arrow Buy some new hyd. hoses

Arrow possibily buy some plasmer rope

Arrow AND USE IT (after some instuction of course)

These are so rare, fitted to a series vehicle would look and work great and add considerable interest (and value Shocked ) to your vehicle and add points if going for our series restoration comp. Very Happy

Many thanks for the feedback, I have kicked this thing around my garage for years, often contemplating selling it, but always reluctant to, knowing I would have another Landy someday. I just did not know whether it was worth keeping, but looking at the posts, sorry BB, I think I will clean it up and wait until Landy numder 2 can be found and financed.

Sottie
Whats the Series resto comp?
Are you telling me I now have to break the news to my Wife that I need 2 landys, 1 for fun and 1 to restore Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

GET THIS Rolling Eyes I had new hydralic pipes made for it 12 years ago by a agri engineer who gave me self drilling, self tapping screws to hold the mounting brkt to the front crossmember Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

This was to save me putting chassis tubes thro' the xmember, needless to say I didnt take his advice. Exclamation Exclamation

Didn't fancy being around when a 100lbs of winch goes flying thro' the air with bits of xmember attached to it Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

If it was me and I wasn't going to use it I'd sell it to either someone who's going to or someone who's doing a complete concourse restoration... I'd imagine you'd get a few quid of an auction site for this... Very Happy

On the other hand I love the look of the thing and I'd be quite open to any donations of such items as I'm very poor and the sicky that needs cheering up.... Forget those other plonka's up there... I'm the innocent type that medically needs one of these or I might roll over and die Shocked Exclamation

Is it working Question Wink

Hi Shorty,

Yeh the club is organising a competition to find the best restored series 3 and the judging will take place in Sept. at the show at Peterborough. It is being supported/sponsered (had the idea!) by Alvin Plummer who has wone several trophy's for his restored 88. Have a look at this link in the series 3 questions section http://www.thelandroverclub.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1146

Good luck Twisted Evil

After only seeing Dumbo for a few short months when we first got together(on the drive, half rebuilt with a ginger tom using it as winter shelter) it was my Wife who suggested I get another one when I was talking about it a couple of months ago. Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked
I thought I had hidden the tear in my eye when Dumbo left on the lowloader, obviuosly not.

Sottie, September you say, probably not enough time to:

save money

find S3

restore S3

drive to P'boro

But I love a challange Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Laughing Laughing Laughing
