New member - Geoff2 (as I understand there is already a Geoff here, actually several) I have owned Series 3 Land Rovers for 25 years and now have two Stage One Station Wagons. I'm also a member of the Stage 1 V8 forum (where I'm the only Geoff) - because I'm no expert on internet etiquette, I never formally introduced myself there before posting, which may have irritated some people, which is why I am doing so here. Obsessed with Stage One V8s - did I mention that?

Hi Geoff,

Welcome to the club and forum!

Not seen a Stage 1 for some time. Well done on having two though! Cool

Thanks for the welcome. Some of you may be familiar with this press photo of a Series 3 High Cap Pick-Up SVC 802W from James Taylor's book Land Rover 1948-83:

http://40.media.tumblr.com/4b74d5cad1d91e40f47575c310bee4cb/tumblr_n6jwtm34ce1toyxtwo2_1280.jpg

For years I have been searching for a similar Land Rover press photo of a silver Stage One Station Wagon SVC 803W, because I own it (it's now green) I'm certain such a photo must have existed, so if anyone comes across one please let me know!

I'm also looking for a Stage 1 V8 pick-up (not a high cap) in very good, original condition (I'm not holding my breath)

Welcome along Geoff, from one of the other Geoffs.

Perhaps this should become the Series 3, 90 - 110 Land Rover and Geoffs Club.

Has a snappy ring to it, I think.

Cheers
Geoff

Thank you Geoff. Looking around the forum, I am wondering if there may be more Geoffs than Stage 1 owners!

Thought I'd post a picture of the vehicle referred to above - first registered in 1981, and originally silver, it was transferred by Land Rover (or more accurately then 'Rover Triumph British Leyland UK') in 1983 to B L (later British Motor) Heritage Ltd at Studley Castle, who at some point it appears may have resprayed it dark blue before transferring it in 1990 to No.480 (Studley) Squadron Air Training Corps, who also have a long association with the Austin Motor Company (who became part of the Rover Group), who had it painted green and from whom it passed into private hands in 1993. Would be very interested to hear from anyone who remembers this vehicle from any part of this history, especially if they have any photos of it, either in its original silver or possible later blue or, later still, green livery.

Some more careful research on this vehicle, prompted by recent articles in Classic Land Rover magazine by Emrys Kirby about a Stage 1 prototype also owned by BMIHT around the same time and resprayed silver by them, suggests mine was in fact originally blue and painted silver by them too and not the other way around. Am now looking for Land Rover publicity photos of blue (rather than silver) Stage One Station Wagons from 1981-83, if anyone should ever come across such.

Hi Geoff, I assume it's a stupid question to ask if you have contacted the Studley ATC for any information? I know they still exist as my best mate's daughter was with them until last year.

Thank you for your response. I did find a few old photographs on their website a while ago but no Land Rovers. I suspect they may have an archive of old photos mouldering away somewhere - I don't suppose your best mate's daughter would know? - but I wouldn't like to bother anyone over it - any photos would at best only show it looking not unlike it does now. I want to see it when it was brand spanking new! I do have a copy of its ATC log for those years (!990-93) from which I learn such interesting details as that it broke down in the Lake District during the last week of May 1990 and the AA had to be called to fit a new radiator hose! (it has never broken down on me) - [why can't I help this picture in my head of a Vulcan bomber parked on the Siberian steppes with a crewman trying to get through to the AA??] Then there's DOES NOT FIT UNDER OVERHEAD BARRIER AT SQN HQ written at the head of each page!! - all a bit Dad's Army

My Dad worked at Needle Industries in Studley for years. My first job was sorting mixed up needles into separate boxes at 16 years old! Nearly sent me doolally!! Still happy memories of me and my old man though.. Very Happy

My mate still lives in Winyates Green. I remember after I passed my driving test we both took my Vauxhall Cavalier Sports Hatch down Gorcott Hill and broke the ton! I was well chuffed, the bast**d shook like a Spitfire trying to break the sound barrier lol!! Happy days!!

Small world init?

Sorry Geoff, mates daughter typical empty headed teenager - won't get much there, but I will ask when I see her.

Adie - Winyates green is rather posh (to those who live there) - poor old Birmingham Road for me I'm afraid. I was however born and brought up in Malvern - In your face Winyates Green! Ha!

Info nugget - Mike Hailwood was killed just up from Gorcott Hill
