Before you leave home for an event.........................................Download HERE

When you arrive at an event, your vehicle will be inspected by a club appointed scrutineer. This is not an MOT. It’s just a routine visual safety check. the scrutineer will check that your vehicle is safe to be  used at the event. Your vehicle must be fully road legal to be used in one of our events anyway, so most of this is common sense. These are friendly but experienced people, and they quite often notice minor problems that the owner is not even aware of. They can actually save you money as minor faults cost less to fix than big ones.

The download has a pre event checklist for drivers and a copy of our scrutineers guide (to give you some idea of what they will be looking for).

Club Events - Information for Drivers

As you will be aware, all of our major off-road events are organised according to MSA (The Motor Sports association) Regulations. This also permits the club to carry indemnity insurance for the event officials and participating members. This is not just a case of paying a fee and signing on the dotted line. Each event must be properly planned, organised by competent people and marshalled according to a strict set of rules. The rules are there to keep participants and bystanders safe in what can be a dangerous environment.

It’s also reassuring to know that our events are organised properly.

When you get to an event........................................................Download HERE

When you arrive at an event, your vehicle will be inspected (as mentioned above) and you will be asked to sign in to the event. You will be given a declaration to read and a sheet to sign. This is a requirement of the MSA. If you do not sign in to the event, you will not be covered by the club insurance. Also, signing in to a MSA registered offroad event will exempt you from  Section 13A parts 1 to 3 of The Road Traffic Act 1991. If you have an accident without this exemption you could be arrested and charged by the Police with dangerous driving even though you are at a Motor Sports event taking place on private land!

The download has an example of a drivers declaration and signing on sheet.
